Proposed Telescope Viewing for October 21st is cancelled due to bad weather.

Welcome to the Yampa Valley Astronomy Club home page.

YVAC was founded in Jan. 2005 by avid amateur astronomers in Steamboat Springs and the greater Yampa valley. The club has been created to serve astronomers of all ages and experience levels. With dark skies, clear nights, and stable seeing, the Yampa valley is an incredible place to stare up into space for hours on end.

Left Photo: Chandrayaan-1, India’s first unmanned spacecraft mission to moon, successfully entered lunar orbit on November 8. See the Universe Today Story here. Right photo: Athena Coustenis, an astrophysicist and planetologist with the Paris Observatory, is helping draft a plan to send a hot air balloon to Titan, as well as an orbiting spacecraft and a surface probe. Called TSSM – the Titan and Saturn System Mission – this three-tiered approach to exploration could shed more light on the still-mysterious moon. See the Space.com story here.

The club is planning year round events including
  • Meetings every alternate month

  • Special events on the other months including

  • equipment training sessions

  • star parties

  • classes

The Club’s next meeting has been postponed until further notice. It will feature Dr. Ball’s solar eclipse presentation. “I will show a 30 min DVD lecture on solar eclipses and then no more than 30 minutes of our trip and eclipse photos. I think it will be an informative and fun presentation. Ann will also bring some treats. Families are welcome – nothing overly technical but at introductory astronomy level.”

All right, the coolest thing ever "Sky" in Google Earth!

We are part of the Western Colorado Astronomy Net (WCAN) See the link below. All are welcome to browse their sites & attend events of interest. Contact Scott for WCAN's latest combined Astronomy Club Schedule.
