No one knows for sure when Steamboat Springs hosted its first organized rodeo competition; however, vintage photos show us that it could have been as early as 1897. Rodeoing in Steamboat has become a proud tradition and , for some, a way of life.
Today the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series takes place every Friday and Saturday night beginning in late June and ending in late August with additional performances over the July 4th weekend. The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series is sanctioned by the PRCA and the WPRA.
Professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls compete for prize money and silver buckles in bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf, steer and team roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding
All performances are at 7:30PM except the July 4th performance, which commences at 7:00pm, with fireworks immediately following the rodeo. The rodeo performances are held at Romick Arena, located at the intersection of 5th Street and Howelsen Parkway.
Tickets are available at the gate, or in advance at Soda Creek Western Mercantile, F.M. Light & Sons, Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association, Mt. Werner Total, Steamboat Springs KOA, Gondola General and Market on the Mountain.
A Western Style Barbecue and pre-rodeo entertainment begins at 6:30 pm.
