Lift-Up of Routt County Funds & Grant Summary: Food Banks The food banks and Hayden Office are the point of contact for all Lift-Up emergency assistance programs. Well over $100,000 worth of non-perishable and perishable food items and personal products are given out annually through the emergency food program. Eligible persons can receive this help one time per calendar quarter. Lift-Up is also the designated distribution center for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) provided by the USDA. This program benefits nearly 100 income eligible households with a substantial box of nutritious food four times per year.
Community Care Fund This is the oldest Lift-Up program and is used solely to assist non-local or "transient" clients with emergency needs such as food, clothing, lodging, a hot shower, gasoline or bus ticket. This help is available 24 hours a day through a gracious partnership with local law enforcement agencies throughout Routt County.
The Salvation Army Lift-Up assists local households in the amount of $6,000 to $8,000 annually with a variety of needs including such things as doctor bills, dentist bills, rent assistance, auto repairs, utility deposits, etc. These funds are generated by the local bell-ringing campaign over the holidays.
Housing Needs Grants This once-in-a-lifetime assistance helps clients with a one month rent or mortgage emergency need. Funded largely by grants, as many as 20 households per year have been helped by this special resource!
The Special Needs Fund From Lift-Up’s resources, this general client assistance fund can be used for a variety of needs such as emergency help with rent, utililties, medical & dental bills, medications, etc., with a maximum of $500 per household. Resources for this fund normally come from individual donations or foundation grants.
The Hayden Community Fund Again, a general emergency assistance fund administered by Lift-Up. The West Routt community (Hayden) provides the resources, which are to be used only for Hayden residents. Those demonstrating an emergency can be helped with a maximum of $300 per household. Over 20 households per year are assisted by this fund alone.
The Energy Outreach Colorado Grant These funds assisted 39 households with an average heating bill of $169, for a total of $6,587 in 2003. These funds can be used in addition to, or instead of, the LEAP program through Routt County Department of Human Services.
Community Thrift Store The Lift-Up Thrift Store program serves a multitude of purposes. It offers: provision for clothing and household goods that are vouchered through the food banks, police departments or other appropriate local agencies; low-cost quality items for purchase by persons of all economic levels; a means and place for the entire community to recycle gently used items and receive a tax deduction; a way for Lift-Up to fund a significant portion of the operating costs of the food bank programs.
The total from all resources given for emergency assistance funding through Lift-up was $29,960. When added to the total of food and clothing assistance, Lift-Up helped people with a grand total of over $173,000 last year!
Regular volunteers at Lift-Up number approximately 50 and logged a total of 4,542 hours in 2003. If those hours were assigned a dollar value, it would be in the double-digit thousands!
