Every day individual consumers make choices regarding the products they choose to purchase and perhaps more importantly where they decide to purchase them. Consumer preference surveys are commonly used to assess and understand these choices. It widely known that the local consumer (year-round Routt County Resident) does not purchase all goods and services locally. Transactions that occur outside of Routt County represent economic leakage. In the fall of 2002, a consumer preference survey was conducted of the local (year-round) Routt County resident to assess economic leakage.
