CSU Cooperative Extension Logo Colorado State University Cooperative Extension
Cooperative Extension is a nation-wide program that is administered by land-grant universities in each state. Colorado State University (CSU) Cooperatvie Extension is an extension of the university's research, resources, and personnel. There are approximately 57 Cooperative Extension offices throughout the state; roughly one located in each county. Funds to operate Cooperative Extension come from three major sources of government support: federal, state, and county.

Mission
The mission of Cooperative Extension is "to provide information and education, and encourage the application of research-based knowledge in response to local, state, and national issues affecting individuals, youth, families, agricultural enterprises, and communities of Colorado."

Vision
To lead the University in helping the people of Colorado put knowledge to work.

Information Brokers
It is hard to define Cooperative Extension because we are as diverse as our audiences. We are responsible to you, our tax payers, therefore each county differs in its programming. Our job is to be information brokers, to help you find the answer, resource, or professional that is right for the job. We do not claim to know everything, but we do promise to help you find what you are looking for. The best part is, most services are free or provided at a minimal cost.

Programs
Cooperative Extension offers three main programs to the public: sustainable and profitable agriculture, 4-H/youth development, and family and consumer science education. Each office has a specialist in each of these areas, although sometimes in smaller counties the duties are shared by one or two people. Luckily, in Routt County we have an Agriculture Agent, 4-H/Youth Agent, and a 4-H/Family and Consumer Science Agent.

The extension agents in Routt County listen to today's problems, use research to assist people in interdisciplinary problem solving, and offer educational solutions. The important thing is to get practical information to the people who need it when they need it. Extension agents use many different teaching methods.
